Happy Mother's Day to All the Mother's in The World

I was inspired today after reading a blog post on http://www.beverlydillow.com  to write
a post on the most inspiring woman I know, my mother.
I feel very blessed to have such a remarkable woman in my life and I wanted to share
with you all a little bit about her and how she has impacted my life and
some of the things she taught me.

For as long as I can remember, my life has been pretty good. I can say that I have been very blessed. I pretty much grew up as an Army child and we moved around quite often.
(I think I at least went to about 6 elementary schools).
Having moved around so much, I made and said goodbye to many
"friends". I can say as a child I could be bossy and as my mother says, "just flat out mean".
Lesson #1: Be kind and respectful to others.
There is story that my mother likes to talk about from my childhood and it goes a
little something like this...
I remember one day when you were little, the little girl from down the street knocked on
the door because she had wanted to come and play with you. You (talking about me) open the door and said," What are you doing here? I didn't ask you to come over here. Don't come over unless I tell you to come over." I then proceeded to close the door in my friends face. When I turned around my mother said, "Mimi ( my nickname) that was not nice and you should not treat
people like that." Even though my friend came over many more times and played with me after that I found myself trying to be more kind and respectful to others.
Even to this day when I find myself wanting to say something bad to others or wanting to stop doing nice things for people , I think to myself
(I have to be kind and respectful ) because my mother taught me to always be kind and respectful, even when others are not to you.

When I started the fourth grade my parents got divorced and we moved to Texas. I can say that I was very excited to move here back then because the majority of my family lives down here. I can't say I took my parents divorce very hard in the beginning because I was so excited to be with the rest of my family. Also since I was a military child I was used to my dad not being around a lot due to him being over seas. What I didn't expect was my mother having to work so much to provide for me and my other siblings (I was used to my mother being home).
Lesson #2: Life can be rough but we must push on.
The move started out fine at first, we lived in a nice townhome and I enjoyed my new elementary school. But the next year, things changed. We moved to a somewhat "hooded" area. I hated my elementary school at first but there were some aspects later on that made it more bearable. The kind of children and people were way different than what I was used to and on top of that, my dad stopped coming to visit me. My mother worked hard to provide for us. When I looked back and think about how she made sure we had what we needed even though she was going through a difficult transition in life, I am grateful. We didn't starve, we had clothes on our back, and shoes on our feet. Even though all our lives had changed, she did what she had to do and in doing so, showed me how to be a strong and independent woman.
(By the way my mom did remarry and he is a great Christian man and a wonderful father)
Even though my mother has taught me many things, I'm going to conclude with this last lesson.
Lesson # 3: God takes care of his children.
I wouldn't say that growing up we were a very Christian household. There were times where we went to church all the time and other times where we just didn't. When we moved
to Texas, we began going back to church every Sunday.
Eventually I started to see a change in my mother. She didn't
listen to certain kinds of music anymore. She was reading her Bible and she looked more happier.
Almost nothing makes me more happier than seeing my mother happy.
I believe that the change I saw in my mother came out of her obtaining a relationship with God and seeing everything the Lord has put in her life and seeing all the blessings he has given her has been amazing.
I have watched my mother who I have always thought to be a beautiful, tender loving, and generous woman grow more into a virtuous, supportive, and happier person as well as what I've always seen her to be.
I love my mother very much and I am glad that the Lord blessed me to be her daughter.

I hope you all have a happy Mother's Day and I hope you all think about what our mother's do for us everyday. Until next time, have a wonderful day and thanks for following me down my glitter pink road.

For the month of April I decided to join Sophia from mygreatchallenge.blogspot.com on her decluttering challenge. Each day for thirty days you have to get rid of one bag of stuff in your home. The bag size doesn't matter, it really depends on the person, the bag can either be donated or thrown away. I personally have done four grocery store bags and two garbage bags worth of things.
I donated one and the rest were put in the garbage. It really does feel nice to get rid of some of the clutter that has accumulated in my home.
I decided to join her challenge after watching her video on YouTube. I thought it would be good to get rid of some stuff since cleaning has become much more  a chore for me since having my daughter.
I also thought that this challenge could help start my Spring cleaning that I do every year around this time. So far I have been enjoying every bit. I also enjoy watching her (Sophia) as she goes through her home and gets rid of things. She always gets me motivated, especially when it comes to cleaning.
I would say to anyone who feels that they have to much stuff throughout their home and just can't find the motivation to declutter and get organized to join in on the challenge. It doesn't matter what day you start on, just do it for the next thirty days (or more if you want).
Once again I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope you continue to join me down my glitter pink road.

A Golden Easter: My 2016 Easter Tablescape

This year for Easter I decided to  create a golden Easter table setting. I was reading to my daughter (she's only 3 months) The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes as Told to Jennifer By DuBose Heyward. I've had this book since I was a child and I can say it's one of my favorites
to read around this time of year. You can definitely see the years of wear and tear on it.
For my centerpiece, I used a white bunny carrying a basket of mini feather stemmed carrots.  Both
were purchased from Hobby Lobby  in 2015 on clearance. Around the bunny is a garland
of carrots also purchased from Hobby Lobby last year. Lastly he is sitting on a burlap runner.
As for my table setting itself, all the items were purchased from Pier1 Imports. All items
were purchased on sale with extra coupons except the glitter salad plates. Those
were purchased on clearance last year but they usually come back so check for them
close to fall.  The crystal glasses are from my mother.
The napkins were from HomeGoods

The only other thing that I have decorated for Easter/Spring is my coffee table.
The tray holding the décor is from Hobby Lobby last year 80% of sale.
The bunny is from Hobby Lobby's spring collection last year (2015)
but they have brought it back this year.
The fruit is from 2 years ago and I think it was purchased from either Hobby Lobby or Michaels. The grapes were purchased from Joanns on clearance. Then there is just a picture
of my husband and I on our wedding day. There is also a slight view of
our daughter in one the other picture frames.

I hope y'all enjoyed viewing my Easter tablescape and coffee table décor. Until next time, "Follow the [Glitter Pink] road".

Welcome to my Blog

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog, Down the Glitter Pink Road. As most of you know by now (at least if you read my about me) my name is Tamikca.
First and foremost, I would like to start off by saying thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you find something here that will bring you back to see what I am up to.
 For the most part,
I would like to share with y'all my home décor and organization.
I love everything about decorating.
I love putting a piece of my own creativity into my home along with getting inspiration from others.
I think sharing ideas and looking at what others have done to their homes and aspects of their life is beautiful.
For me personally, I love going to other people's blogs and YouTube channels to see how they organize, clean, decorate and cook is just amazing and it gets me motivated to do more stuff
around my own home.
I also hope to share with you some of the things that I enjoy in my day to day life with family and friends.
I think life is beautiful and seeing the different things people do and how they live their lives is not only interesting but inspiring. From cooking to cleaning and everything in between, I enjoy it all.
So relax, pull up a chair, and follow me along my glitter pink road.
